Hyundai is charging Ioniq 5 owners £49 in the UK for an optional cybersecurity patch.
The patch includes software and hardware upgrades to address hacking of wireless locking protocols.
Thieves have used handheld devices to exploit vulnerabilities in Ioniq 5, EV6, and GV60 locks.
Hyundai argues the vehicle met original cybersecurity standards and the threat has only recently evolved.
Owners can check eligibility by entering their VIN on Hyundai’s portal and decide if the upgrade is worth it.
The hacking device reportedly costs around $20,000, so the actual risk of theft may be relatively low.
